Voice over IP (VoIP)
If you've never heard of Voice over IP (VoIP), get ready to change the way you think about long-distance phone calls. VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol (IP), is a method for taking analog audio signals and turning them into digital data that can be transmitted over the Internet. Nerd Alert is pleased to offer Voice over IP Technology.
Voice over Internet Protocol uses the Internet Protocol (IP) to transmit voice as packets over an IP network. Using VoIP protocols, voice communications can be achieved on any IP network regardless it is Internet, Intranets or Local Area Networks (LAN). In a VoIP enabled network, the voice signal is digitized, compressed and converted to IP packets and then transmitted over the IP network.
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls using a broadband Internet connection. This form of voice communication is distinct from legacy analog voice communications where voice traffic travels over the PSTN network where a dedicated connection is established for the duration of the call.
VoIP traffic simply travels over the internet without any dedicated connection. In fact, individual VoIP packets will take different routes to their destination and be “reassembled” at the recipient site so that they are intelligible utilizing the Internet Protocol(IP).
